So, if your results have come back abnormal, the first thing you need to do is calm down, relax, and keep on reading. The word "abnormal" sounds scary, but it really doesn't necessarily mean anything that bad.

You’ve bitten the bullet, went into the doctor, and had a semen analysis done. Now, the results are in, and they don’t sound good. Your doctor says your semen analysis results are “abnormal.” So, what exactly does that mean, and what should you do next? Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

What It DOESN’T Mean

First of all, let’s talk for a minute about what an abnormal sperm analysis does NOT mean. Abnormal semen analysis doesn’t mean that you are infertile. Not by a long shot. So, if your results have come back abnormal, the first thing you need to do is calm down, relax, and keep on reading. The word “abnormal” sounds scary, but it really doesn’t necessarily mean anything that bad.

What It COULD Mean

An abnormal semen analysis could mean many things. You might just have a low sperm count. Maybe you were sick for a few days before the test, and you threw your results off. Were you super nervous before your exam? That can affect your results as well. Plus, even if your sperm results are “subpar,” that doesn’t mean that you are not able to father a child at all. It just means that it might take longer, or might be a little more difficult. A semen analysis doesn’t tell you exactly what is wrong, but it can give you and your doctor a better idea of what you can do next.

What Happens Next

Your doctor will probably ask you to take the semen analysis test again, just to make sure that you get the same results the second time around. If your results are still abnormal, you might have to get an exam by a urologist. You might also have some blood work done to see exactly what is going on. If your doctor can’t make a determination after that, you might have to go through a post-coital test, which will evaluate your partner’s cervical mucus after sex.

Treatments, Etc.

Your doctor might be able to recommend some simple changes, such as diet or lifestyle changes that might help get your semen back to a normal level. If that doesn’t work, you might need to take some medication. Fertility treatments such as IVF might be recommended. After you start a treatment plan, your doctor will probably want to do a follow up semen analysis in a few months to see how you are responding to treatment. Just keep in mind, that an abnormal semen analysis is not the end of the world!
