Good Foods Versus Bad Foods

It’s pretty simple, when you think about the rules of what to eat and what not to eat to get pregnant. The best fertility diet also happens to be the best all-around overall diet as well. A diet full of fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, lean meats and low fat or full fat dairy products is the best way to go. Eating foods as close as possible to their natural state is also the best idea. Things to avoid include junk foods, processed foods and foods laden with artificial ingredients such as artificial colors, flavors and sweeteners. These things can wreak havoc on your fertility, not to mention the fact that they increase your chance of being overweight, which can also cause fertility issues. So, now that you know what general rules to follow regarding your fertility diet, let’s talk about some specific foods that you can eat.

Proteins

Studies have shown that women who eat a high protein, low carb diet have an easier time conceiving. a diet of 25% or more protein and 40% or less carbs improved egg quality and doubled pregnancy rate in IVF patients as opposed to those following a higher carb, lower protein diet. Some of the best sources of good quality protein include things like eggs and egg whites, salmon, turkey and chicken. You can also get lots of protein from things like nuts, peanut butter, and beans.

Dairy

When it comes to dairy, you might be surprised to find that full fat is a better option than low fat. This is because in many studies, women who ate full fat dairy products were more fertile than women who ate low fat dairy products. Researchers and scientists are not sure why there is such a difference, but this is definitely something to keep in mind as you eat your eggs, yogurt, milk and cheese.

Fruits and Veggies

Fruits and veggies are probably one of the most important foods to include in your diet for fertility. Fruits and vegetables contain many important nutrients, like Vitamin C, folic acid, vitamin B6, potassium, vitamin B12, and even iron and zinc. To get the most bang from your fruit and vegetable choices, try to eat organic whenever possible. Also, if you can buy local produce that has not traveled very far so that it can be fresher and healthier.
