Tips for Using OPKs (Ovulation Predictor Kits)

When using an ovulation predictor kit (OPK) there are certain things that you can do to increase your chances of success in getting pregnant and ensuring that you are using the OPK correctly.

An ovulation predictor kit is one of the various ways that you can help to increase your chances of success in getting pregnant. In recent years OPKs have become a mainstay for couples trying to conceive as cases of infertility have risen. They provide you with a clear indicator of your body’s hormones and ovulation cycle, testing for key hormones that signal the oncoming ovulation so that you can be ready to actively try for a baby at the most opportune time of your fertility. Ovulation predictor kits today come in two different types: the dip-strip test and the mid-stream test. Each one provides roughly the same small percentage of error; they merely provide you with two different ways of checking your body for ovulation. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

When using an ovulation predictor kit there are certain things that you can do to increase your chances of success in getting pregnant and ensuring that you are using the OPK correctly.

Test every 12 hours

Many OPK manufacturers recommend testing once a day for ovulation, but doing so may be detrimental to your efforts. Ovulation can begin as quickly as 12 hours after a luteinizing hormone spike in the body and if you were to test say at 7am with a negative result you could begin ovulating as soon as 7pm, missing a whole 12 hours of ovulation because you won’t be testing again until 7am the next morning. These are pricey, to have enough on hand to accommodate twice a day testing. That’s why the Fertibella ConceiveEasy TTC Kit is great, as it comes with 20 ovulation tests as a free bonus gift!

Same time each day

OPKs test for luteinizing hormone (LH) levels in the body that naturally change slightly throughout the day. If you test one day in the early morning as soon as you wake up and the next day in the late evening your LH levels may be different, giving you a false indication of ovulation because of the different levels. By sticking to the same time each day the results of the test are far more likely to be stable unless ovulation is about to commence.

Use a basal thermometer with your ovulation test routine

By charting your basal thermometer temperature each day you can get a better idea of the natural cycles of your body, allowing you a higher degree of success as you try to conceive. Keeping detailed records of both can help you better predict when to actively try for a baby the longer you use both a OPK and basal thermometer as each month provides you with a clear chart of times when your body rhythm changes.

Don’t rely on just OPKs

The best tip that any couple trying to get pregnant can take to heart is to actively try to conceive as much as possible. With optimal circumstances sperm can survive up to 5 days in a woman’s body and if a couple has sex every day in the days leading up to ovulation there is a higher chance that a lucky, mobile sperm will be able to successfully make the journey through the reproductive tract to the waiting egg.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. The first thing you need to do before you try to conceive is to have a preconception checkup with your doctor so you can have your overall health checked. Then, you can boost your fertility by eating right, exercising regularly and taking pre-natal vitamins. One way to get pregnant faster is by knowing when your ovulation days are. You can do this with the help of an ovulation prediction kit (OPK) which detects an LH (luteinizing hormone) surge in your urine, which tells you that ovulation is about to occur within the next 24 hours.
