Drugs and tobacco

It may seem obvious, but when you are getting fertility treatments (and even when you’re not) you should avoid using illegal drugs, and really any drug or medication that could cause trouble in your body.

All drugs, including tobacco, interfere with the conception process and fertility treatments. Also, even if you become pregnant, use of drugs or tobacco products can cause harmful effects to your baby, even causing miscarriage in some cases. Use of drugs and tobacco products is highly recommended to be avoided during fertility treatments.

Alcohol

Alcohol is one of the most harmful things that you can partake in while trying to conceive. Alcohol can lower sperm counts in men. Alcohol use can also inhibit a woman’s ability to get pregnant. If a woman does get pregnant, alcohol use can harm the fetus, and cause lasting harmful effects in newborns. If you currently drink alcohol, try to stop completely while having fertility treatments. If you have trouble giving up alcohol, or tobacco and other drugs, talk with your doctor for tips on how to quit using it completely.

Poor diet

It is very important to make sure that you eat a well balanced and healthy diet when you are trying to conceive. A good diet is the basis of all the building blocks of the body, and getting all the nutrition your body needs will help your body to be just as healthy as possible.

Your doctor can help you develop a perfect nutrition plan for you to use while you are receiving fertility treatments. Making sure you get all the nutrients and vitamins that your body needs while you are undergoing fertility treatments.

Stress

Doctors advise that women who are undergoing fertility treatments try to avoid stress. Stress negatively impacts all areas of our lives, but especially fertility and conception. Try to find a way to manage your stress during fertility treatments, whether it be exercise, time with friends or family, or other ways of managing stress while taking fertility treatments.
