Myths about pills

There are so many myths, rumors and so much information going around these days about the pill. You shouldn’t take it because it will lead to infertility later in life, is probably the most common one. We have tons of young women today who are afraid to take the pill to prevent pregnancy right now, because they are being told that they won’t be able to have children later in life. Is this true?

Truth about pills

In short? No, it is not true. Absolutely no research has been found to link the use of birth control pills to infertility. Of course, you aren’t able to get pregnant while you are taking them, that’s the point. But, after going off of the pill, there is no proof that you won’t be able to get pregnant.

It is true that some women’s bodies take a longer time to get back to their normal cycles after going off of the pill, so it might be necessary to wait longer before becoming pregnant. It might take your body longer to get the effects of the pill out of your system, but there is no real long term damage done. But, as a general rule, as soon as you get your first period after going off of the pill, you should be just fine trying to get pregnant.

How pills help

As a matter of fact, there is a lot of research that has been done showing that the pill can actually help to PREVENT infertility, by preventing diseases like uterine and ovarian cancers. The pill can reduce the likelihood of ectopic pregnancies and also can help reduce the symptoms of endometriosis and other illnesses.

Another fun fact? Sometimes birth control pills are even used as a PART of fertility treatments, when your cycle needs to be regulated, such as with IVF, and can be helpful in women who experience Clomid resistance.

So, there you have it. The facts about fertility and birth control pills. There should be no fear associated with taking them, and there is no research to back up the claims that they can cause infertility later in life!
