Should You Take a Break Between IVF Cycles?

IVF popularity

Out of the many fertility treatments today, in-vitro fertilization or IVF is very popular mainly because it has higher success rates than the other fertility treatments. However, the doctor will not ask you to go for IVF right away. Based on your problem, he will try giving you medications to help you out. If nothing works, he will suggest that you go for IVF in order to have a baby. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

Success Rate of IVF

While the success rates of IVF are higher than the other fertility treatments, there are high chances of failure of IVF, too. Not all couples that undergo IVF have a baby successfully. The success rate is only 37 percent.

Out of this percentage, there are also a few miscarriages. Thus, the percentage of the chances of having a baby successfully is only 33 percent. If you have a failed IVF cycle, you may want to attempt it again. But this is where the main question rises.

Common Questions

How long should you wait before attempting IVF again? How long should be the gap between two IVF cycles? Will going for a new cycle soon affect the chances of getting pregnant negatively? Will waiting long enough increase the chances of getting pregnant? These are common questions that will boggle your mind. Here are some answers for you.

The problem is that until recently only one study has been carried out to check if waiting for a few months between IVF cycles is helpful. The study compared consecutive cycles and alternating cycles. However, the results were not clear. There was no evidence to suggest that either of them was better than the other.

The Gap Between IVF Cycles

Recently, another study was conducted and according to this study, the gap between IVF cycles does not really make a difference. The study makes it clear that whether you go for consecutive IVF cycles or wait for a few months and try again, the success rate will be the same.

Two Groups

In this study, two groups of people were studied for many years. The first was the group that had women who chose consecutive IVF cycles and the second was the group that chose to wait a couple of months before going for another IVF cycle.

The Results

When the results of both these groups were compared based on clinical pregnancy, implantation, and live birth rates, it was discovered that there was no significant difference between the two groups.

Since there is no difference between consecutive cycles and cycles conducted after a period of time, the choice is yours. However, you should consider a number of other things such as physical and mental wellness. Infertility is very hard to cope with and when you suffer from a failed IVF cycle, the pain increases.

You may not be fit enough mentally and physically to go for another cycle immediately. This is why it is ideal to wait for sometime so that you come to terms with what is happening and overcome the stress. Try not allowing the stress to get the better of you because that will affect your health.

Wait for a few months and once you are ready, go for it. May be you will get pregnant this time around!
