For those of you who just cannot withstand all the suspense, here are a few secrets to get pregnant fast that will help you get prepared for the eventual pregnancy and understand your body better.

Get a check-up

The first thing you should do before trying to get pregnant is to visit your healthcare provider for a preconception check-up. This should include a full check-up of both you and your partner’s health, which will help you establish from the beginning what you are dealing with and to take action if you are facing health issues that may affect your fertility.

After-effects of birth control

If you were using the pill or Depo-Provera or other types of hormonal birth control methods, you should know that it might take a while before their effect wears off completely. Even though your cycle will go back to normal once you have stopped using them, it may be a little while before your fertility is completely restored, but it should not be a reason for concern.

Learn about ovulation

Another important aspect when trying to get pregnant is to know your body and your menstrual cycle. Because timing is very important when you want to conceive a baby, you should know when you ovulate. Generally, ovulation takes place on the 14th day of your cycle, your first day of period being the first day of the cycle. The egg survives between 12 and 24 hours after ovulation and sperm survives between 48 to 72 hours after having sex. Therefore, it is very important to synchronize. To find out more about how to pinpoint your exact ovulation date, you can read about How to use an OPK or use our free ovulation calculator.

Monitor your body

There are other methods of determining when you ovulate, besides just using an ovulation predictor kit, that has you monitor your body’s signs & symptoms. You can measure your basal body temperature or monitor your vaginal fluids. Charting your basal body temperatures is a great way to get to know your body and when exactly you ovulate. Additionally, getting to know your cervical mucus patterns, to note when you have the most fertile CM will also alert you to when you are ovulating.

Stay positive 🙂

While keeping a close look on your cycle is very useful, one of the most important secrets to get pregnant fast is to stay relaxed. While this may sound trite, it is true as studies have actually shown that stress and an unhealthy attitude toward trying to conceive can actually decrease your chances of getting pregnant. If you forego any of the above ovulation pinpointing methods, you can simply just have sex every other day to give you the best chance – but remember, to stay positive!

Most young couples are able to conceive in their first year of trying. Therefore, if you have not succeeded in that time, you may need to seek specialized advice from your physician. Either way, you should remember to enjoy yourself and communicate with your partner.

Pregnancy is a taxing time physically, emotionally and financially.  Make sure you are prepared from all aspects. Having more relaxed and enjoyable sex before the approximate ovulation date helps.  If you’ve been having irregular ovulation dates, you can try an ovulation kit. There are other methods like noting your basal body temperature or noticing your cervical mucus but they could be tricky. Do not lose or gain too much weight as this leads to hormonal imbalances. Your gynecologist will also advise you to get all your routine blood tests and pelvic sonography done. A nutritious, well-balanced diet with vitamins (like folic acid) and mineral supplements is essential. Also, avoid caffeine, chocolate, and artificial sweeteners.
