Stretchmarks during pregnancy happen. The good news is that you can take a few precautions in order to avoid or at least lessen your stretch marks.

Pregnancy brings with it delight, joy, and happiness. But, it also brings with it a number of woes such as mood swings, nausea, morning sickness, and the dreadful stretch marks. There is no way around stretch marks. They are a part and parcel of pregnancy and when you get pregnant you will have to make peace with the fact that you will have stretch marks as your belly expands. The reason why you get stretch marks is that your stomach expands more than its normal capacity. This causes striae on the skin. Striae are pinkish streaks that are developed because the collagen of the skin is damaged due to the expansion. The good news is that you can take a few precautions in order to avoid stretch marks. Watch your weight

Gaining weight during pregnancy is a piece of cake. You will bloat without even realizing it. You should, hence, be very careful and you should ensure that you don’t gain extra weight. Always eat healthy foods so that you don’t cross the line and your weight is under your control. Your diet should consist of nutrition-rich foods only. You should only stick to those foods that will help you stay healthy throughout your pregnancy. Eating too much will make you gain weight and you will automatically have stretch marks. There is no escaping from them if you are overweight. Thus, maintain healthy weight and go to the doctor if you have any doubts about your diet or your health.

Stay hydrated

You should drink loads of water so that you are hydrated at all times and so that you remain full for longer. This will help you avoid overeating and gaining unnecessary calories. Water should be your staple beverage and you should always keep drinking as much as you can. You can never get enough of water! Keep drinking and make sure you drink at least 2.7 liters everyday without fail.


This relates to point one. Exercising will help you watch your weight and thus, you will avoid stretch marks. You can go for Pilates, yoga, elliptical training, swimming, and walking based on your preferences. Just make sure that you eat healthy and exercise everyday during your pregnancy.
