The Study

The Spanish study followed more than 500 women who had fertility issues, and another 1600 women of the same age who had at least one child. The study compared the diets of all of the women, and the results were surprising!

The women in the study who closely followed a Mediterranean style diet were up to 44 percent less likely to develop fertility problems than women who followed a Western style diet comprised of things like red meats, fast foods, processed foods and sugars.

What to eat

It’s important to understand what a Mediterranean diet consists of if you are thinking about shifting your diet to one like this. A Mediterranean diet consists of eating lots of healthy foods, like fruits and veggies, and whole grains. It includes lots of beans, olive oil, spices, and maybe even a glass or two of red wine.

What not to eat

What you won’t find in the Mediterranean diet? A ton of meats, or sugary sweets. No processed foods, no fast food, and very little of things like snacks, candy, chips, etc. This type of diet is focused on natural, healthy foods that would normally be found in the Mediterranean region.

Other Benefits

Besides being a diet to boost fertility, there are also many other benefits of a Mediterranean diet as well. It is touted as one of the best diets for heart health, and also as a great diet to follow if you want to lose weight.

The Mediterranean diet can also have a huge impact on sleep health, and can even reduce symptoms associated with sleep apnea. It can also improve liver health, In fact, experts from US News and World Report even rated the Mediterranean diet as one of the best diets in the world.

The experts said of the diet, “With its emphasis on fruits and vegetables, olive oil, fish, and other healthy fare, the Mediterranean diet is eminently sensible. And experts’ assessments of it were resoundingly positive, giving this diet an edge over many competitors.” What a great glowing review, and a real inspiration to try this diet!
