While we might not hear the truth from every celeb, Mariah Carey is one Hollywood mama who has opened up about her fertility journey, showing all of us that not everything is glamorous when you are rich and famous.
When gorgeous twins Morroccan and Monroe were six months old, Mariah sat down with Barbara Walters and told her the whole story. The process for Nick and Mariah was far from easy. Mariah first went through acupunture treatments to help her become more “zen like” so she could be ready for pregnancy. Mariah also revealed that her “secret weapon” for getting and being pregnant with twins was progesterone treatment.
“The main thing I did that was tough, was to go on progesterone like every month… and then when I was pregnant, I had to stay with the progesterone for 10 weeks. It minimizes the chance of miscarriage by 50 percent.” Mariah told Barbara Walters during the interview.
Things were not smooth with Mariah during her pregnancy at age 40. She had to completely change her diet and her lifestyle, and she revealed that she suffered from back pain so severe that she was afraid she would “never be able to walk properly again”, and she also revealed that she couldn’t even go to the bathroom without having someone help her.
“I was so miserable,” she said. “I hate to say it because I am so blessed and I’m so thankful – because people will watch this and be like ‘Oh Mariah Carey, complaining about her pregnancy’ – and I don’t want to do that.”
Mariah also revealed that there are no plans for her and hubby Nick Cannon to try for any more babies in the future. “If God chooses to do that to me, then that would happen; other than that I don’t think we would try for that ever again. I really don’t know if I can make it through after what I went through, it was really tough.” Carey continued, “I just want people to be prepared that it can happen where you go through a rough time when you’re pregnant.”
It’s very refreshing to see that a celeb mom knows how to be honest and open when it comes to having babies, and lets us all know that is not all rainbows and unicorns.
