Perhaps the most common and well known implantation symptom is implantation bleeding. This bleeding is usually just some light bleeding or spotting, and usually occurs between ten to fourteen days after conception. If you have been able to track ovulation, you will know precisely how many DPO (days past ovulation) you are. Implantation bleeding is usually much lighter than a regular menstrual period.
However, it usually occurs close to the same time as a regular menstrual period would, so some women simply mistake it for their period. With my pregnancy, in fact, I chalked up implantation bleeding to the start of my next period. Imagine my surprise when a couple weeks later I found myself pregnant!
Some women also suffer from mild uterine cramps during the first few days of pregnancy, when implantation occurs. Just like with implantation bleeding, some women think that implantation cramps are just PMS cramps, when really a woman is pregnant!
Sometimes a woman might feel extra moody, weepy, or sad a few days prior to when she is supposed to start her period. However, this might not be normal PMS moodiness, this might be early pregnancy moodiness! Keep an eye out for mood swings that could be blamed on pregnancy instead of PMS!
If you find yourself feeling lightheaded or dizzy a week or so after sex, it might be that you are pregnant! After conception, blood vessels in the body begin to dilate and blood pressure begins to drop. This can lead to lightheaded or dizzy feelings in early pregnancy. Make sure to take note of any dizziness around the time that your period normally starts.
If you are feeling constipated, don’t chalk it up to a bad diet! You could be pregnant! The hormonal changes of early pregnancy can cause your digestive system to slow down, and this can lead to constipation. Don’t write it off as nothing major, as it can be one of the first signs of pregnancy!
The symptoms of pregnancy can be tough to notice, since they can also mimic the symptoms of PMS or sometimes symptoms of getting sick or a stomach bug. The best course of action is to wait and take a home pregnancy test.
Even if you think that you are having implantation symptoms, the only way to know for sure is to wait for the test! That can be very hard, but it really is the best option! If you get a positive home pregnancy test, go ahead and make an appointment with your doctor.
