Why is alkalinity so important to getting pregnant? Well, you see, the body’s natural pH balance is just a little bit on the alkaline side, at around 7.5 out of a possible 14. That means your body’s natural state is just a tiny bit towards being alkaline.

What hurts our body’s PH?

One of the biggest things that throw our body’s alkalinity and pH out of whack is our unhealthy, American diets. Things like burgers, soda, beer, chips, junk food, candy, pizza, white sugar and flour, and processed foods in general crank up the body’s acidity, and throws our normal pH balance out of whack, and into the acidic range. Other things such as stress and obesity can also throw our pH balance out of whack. There are actually a ton of things that can affect the body’s pH and diet is just one of those things.

What does bad pH mean?

When our bodies have a lot of acidic content in them, it can lead to a lot of problems. Acidity leads to issues such as vaginal infections, urinary tract infections, yeast infections, menstrual difficulties, fungal problems, and even infertility.

Another problem for infertility? Sperm naturally prefers an alkaline environment so when our diets and lifestyle leads to a more acidic environment it can make it harder getting pregnant. In fact, an acidic environment inside the vagina can actually lead to the cervical mucus killing the sperm. That is definitely not something that you want if you are trying to get pregnant.

How to treat a bad pH?

If you think you have acidic vaginal pH, you can buy an over the counter test kit to know for sure. The tests are very affordable and easy to use, and you can have a real idea of what kind of pH you are dealing with. If you see that you do need to try to get your pH to more of an alkaline level, you can do one of several things. Eating a good, healthy, well-balanced diet full of fruits and vegetables, especially dark green leafy ones, can really go a long way towards increasing the alkalinity of the body. If you think that you need a little more alkalinity in your diet, talk to your doctor for additional tips on how to improve your body’s pH.
