It is actually true that the environment you live in also plays a role in pregnancy. For example, if you smoke or are exposed to secondhand smoke you will have trouble getting pregnant. Exposure to heavy metals is another example. These things are very significant and well known.

There are, however, a few that are seemingly insignificant but can actually make it harder for you to get pregnant. These include a few household items. Some such items have been listed here:

Soaps

A few antibacterial soaps have been proved to decrease your fertility and make it difficult for you to get pregnant. You should steer clear of soaps that consist of triclosan because this is the danger ingredient. It may impact your reproductive system all together by unbalancing your hormonal levels. Some experts say that this can also be the reason behind low sperm count. Thus, you should stay away not just from soaps that contain this chemical but also laundry soap, dishwasher soap, and shampoo.

Pots and pans

Nonstick pans and pots have a chemical called PFOA or perfluorooctanoic acid. This chemical can make getting pregnant difficult for you. If this chemical is present in your blood and if you have a kid successfully, chances are high that he will be developmentally delayed. Hence you should stop using Teflon pans. There may also be other items that contain this chemical. You should ditch all of them.

Canned food

BPA is a very harmful chemical that is usually present in plastic containers. However, these days it is also found in cans that carry foods. These aluminum cans have BPA in their lining and that can be very harmful. BPA has been linked to low fertility in that it brings down the viable egg count in the body and may also cause the dreaded PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

Laundry detergent

A few chemicals present in laundry detergents can hamper your chances of getting pregnant because they tend to restrict menstrual cycle. You may suffer with irregular periods due to these chemicals. You may also face miscarriage if you get pregnant. They are harmful to men too in that they have adverse effects on the sperm quality. Thus, you should never buy detergents that are petroleum based. You should stop using those, which contain formaldehyde, phthalates, and parabens.

Bed

A few chemicals are used in bed mattresses, carpet paddings, and couch cushions, which are flame retardant. These chemicals tend to get absorbed into the blood and they can affect your fertility adversely. Hence you should choose only organic bedding and organic fabrics.

Paint

Sometimes the paint on your walls can also hamper your chances of getting pregnant. Steer clear of gycol ether, which is extremely harmful. It can affect women by hindering the menstrual cycle and men by affecting their sperm quality. It can also cause miscarriage. Hence you should be very careful.
