What days are your fertile days? The day you ovulate, and the five days BEFORE that day. This is why it is so very important to chart your ovulation and track your fertility, so you will know what your fertile days are.
For the best chance of getting pregnant, women should have sex on the day of ovulation, and each day for a few days prior to ovulation. If you can have sex on each one of your fertile days, great. If not, there is not much more chance of getting pregnant if you have sex every OTHER fertile day rather than every single fertile day.
In a recent study, couples who had sex every single fertile day had a 37% percent rate of pregnancy, while couples who had sex every other fertile day had a 33% rate of pregnancy. Couples who had sex only one time during the fertile window had only a 15% chance of getting pregnant.
Couples used to think that having sex more than once per day during their fertile days would increase their chance of getting pregnant, but that is not the case. As long as your partner has healthy sperm counts, your best chance of pregnancy will be to have sex once each day during your fertile window. Having sex more than once per day will not increase your chances of getting pregnant, and neither will having sex on any day past your day of ovulation.
First of all, if you don’t already track your fertility, you really should start. Having a real idea of when you are ovulating will provide the very best chance for you to get pregnant. However, if you are not currently tracking your ovulation, experts suggest having sex 2-3 times each week to create the best chances of getting pregnant. Of course, this is not as good as knowing your exact fertile days, but if you don’t know your fertile days, 2-3 times a week is a good bet.
