Fertility During Breastfeeding

Fertility During Breastfeeding

If you are trying to get pregnant while you are breastfeeding, you probably already know that it can present its own set of challenges. While you are breastfeeding, just like while you are pregnant, your body’s hormones are all out of whack and messed up. The hormone Prolactin is responsible for the production of milk, and it suppresses the body’s estrogen. The suppressing estrogen keeps you from ovulating, and that can keep you from getting pregnant. So, what are you supposed to do if you want to get pregnant while you are still breastfeeding? Read on for some helpful tips! Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

Just wait!

Easier said than done, right? Well, for most women, getting pregnant while breastfeeding is a waiting game. Most women will slowly begin to become fertile again, as their babies begin to get older and start to sleep through the night. Many women are able to get pregnant once they begin breastfeeding only 2-4 times a day.

Supplement with formula

Some women who are trying to conceive while breastfeeding begin to supplement with formula in order to reduce the number of breastfeeding sessions that they do in a single day. This can trick your body into ovulating again. Only some women will be comfortable doing this, however, as breast milk is by far the best food source for your infant. And if you can, it is always best to provide them breast milk for as long as you can.

Change your diet

There are many women who swear by fertility teas, cranberry juices or grapefruit juices to help them begin to ovulate while breastfeeding. By refining your diet to include more good foods and fewer bad foods, you can also increase your general nutrition and overall health, which might make conception easier.

Some women swear by Vitex for helping them get pregnant while breastfeeding. Vitex is also known as chasteberry and it is a herbal supplement. It is available without a doctor’s prescription and can be found online or at a local health food store. Many women choose to take Vitex, and most agree that it can help with ovulation, regulating cycles, and increasing luteal phase. It is not a cure all treatment by any means, but it is a common treatment method that many women choose.

The bottom line

Even if you don’t think your cycles will ever get back to normal, chances are they will. The hardest thing is having to wait, and knowing that sometimes you aren’t really as in control of your body as you want to be! Be sure to talk to your doctor to see if there are any ideas he or she recommends to help you get pregnant while breastfeeding.
