Fertility medications can be given to treat infertility and one such medication is Femara, especially those who suffer from PCOS.

Medication to treat infertility

Fertility problems have actually become very common today. While for some people pregnancy comes like a breeze, there are others who literally struggle. There are many reasons behind fertility including age, health, lifestyle, and so on. Determining the cause is very important in order to treat the problem effectively. Fertility drugs can be given to treat infertility and one such medication is Femara. There has been a lot of debate about this topic and different doctors have different opinions about the use of this drug. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

What is Femara?

Femara is basically used to treat cancer such as breast cancer in the elderly. Recently, it has also been used to treat PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome. This condition may lead to the lack of ovulation, which leads to infertility. Femara works to eliminate this problem. Most of the medications work to change the levels of hormones in the body to enhance fertility. Increased levels of hormones can lead to problems too, especially in women who have a medical history of breast cancer. Femara, on the other hand, does not change the hormonal levels. This is the reason why many women consider it as a safer option.

An aromatase inhibitor

The working of Femara, which is an aromatase inhibitor, is simple. It reduces the production of estrogen in the body. High estrogen levels are harmful and do not support pregnancy. By regulating these levels, Femara increases your chances of getting pregnant. Femara can be used solely or along with the traditional treatments depending on your requirements and the doctor’s suggestion. Another advantage of Femara for PCOS is that it works efficiently and quickly. The chemical is metabolized quick enough.

Side effects

However, you should be careful about the side effects that this drug comes with. The main side effects include minor headaches, breast tenderness, and hot flashes. A few studies have also shown results of birth defects risks if taken when pregnant. Other more serious side effects include osteoporosis, menopause-like symptoms, and arthritis-like symptoms. Thus, you should avoid the medication once you get pregnant. Femara is ideal for use only if you want to get pregnant despite having PCOS. You should consult your doctor and follow his advice instead of choosing to pop the medicine on your own accord.

When to prescribe?

Femara is usually given after other medications have failed such as Serophene and Clomid. This is because numerous tests and researches have proved that Femara works when the other medications don’t. It is never generally used as the first-line treatment. It is prescribed when the other traditional treatments fail to work. Femara proved to be very effective in studies. Women were able to ovulate for nine months in a year. Also, out of twelve patients who were studied, three successfully got pregnant while taking the medication.

The bottom line

Another study showed that Femara also increased the uterine wall thickening, ensuring that the fertilized egg is implanted firmly. This phenomenon can lead to fewer risks of miscarriages in pregnant women. Femara has found to be more effective in patients in their twenties. If you have not been able to get pregnant while on other medications, you may need Femara. Again, it is safe to take the medication only if your doctor gives you the nod.

Fermara is taken the same way as clomid. Doctors prescribe it to be taken on a certain day of your cycle. It can or can not be taken with something else. If your infertility issues are coming from PCOS then the doctor may also prescribe Metformin as well to help balance out you hormones. I hope this helps!
