What in the world?

You might be wondering what in the world we are talking about. The turkey baster method is one of the oldest known forms of home insemination. There really aren’t many statistics on home insemination, since it’s often frowned upon by medical professionals, and it’s something that people don’t really talk about much. However, there are many forums and online message boards that indicate that many women are still practicing this alternative method to help them get pregnant.

How is it done?

Alternative Insemination using the “turkey baster” method is pretty self-explanatory, but we will explain it anyway. To use this method, sperm will need to be collected in either a cup, a baggie, or a condom. A turkey baster, needleless syringe, or children’s oral medication dispenser will need to be used. The rest is really pretty simple. You withdraw the semen from the cup or baggie, making sure there is no air in the syringe, and then the sperm is slowly injected into the vagina, as close to the cervix as possible.

Does it work?

Many women say that this method has helped them to get pregnant. Rumor has it that having an orgasm after inserting the semen will cause the sperm to be “sucked up” into the cervix, making for a better chance of getting pregnant. There is also better chances of success if the alternative insemination takes place close to ovulation. The day of the LH surge and the day after are ideal. The success rates for using this method are probably pretty close to the success rates of using good old fashioned intercourse.

Who does this?

There are apparently quite a few people out there who use this method to try to get pregnant. Most of these people are single mothers, or gay/lesbian/bisexual couples who want to have a child. Couples who suffer from some form of male infertility may also find this method helpful. Many people opt for methods like this because they are cheap, and you don’t need any special supplies. It is also a method that is done in the comfort of your own home, and many people like that. It is always a good idea to check with your doctor or health care professional before trying any alternative insemination methods however.
