We’ve all heard the advice “eat a rainbow” when it comes to vegetables and fruits, but now, there is even more of a reason. New research indicates that eating yellow and orange vegetables may make sperm swim faster, and eating red fruits and vegetables can help to produce healthy sperm. Researchers at Harvard’s School of Public Health found that warm colored fruits and veggies had a huge impact on sperm.

Super carrots

Carrots in particular were noticed for helping with sperm boosting! We all know that carrots are high in beta carotene, which gives them their bright orange color. Beta carotene, in case you didn’t know, is a precursor of Vitamin A, and the body converts as much for it as it needs.

The body apparently really likes beta carotene, because the new study of around 200 college aged men found that eating carrots can boost sperm motility by anywhere from 6.5% to 8%. There was also indications that the lutein found in spinach and lettuce also helped with sperm count. The lycopene that give tomatoes and other fruits and veggies their red color was also proven to really help in sperm boosting.

While there is still much more research that needs to be done on carrots as a fertility super food, this new study is definitely promising, and hopefully it will prompt men to eat a healthy diet in order to preserve their fertility and give it a boost if need be! It’s important to eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables so that all the nutrients that you need can be easily available.

What to know

While eating carrots is a great way to get beta carotene in your diet, make sure that your guy doesn’t go overboard. When beta carotene comes into the body through food sources, the body only absorbs what it needs. However, it is easy to get too much beta carotene if it is taken in supplement form.

Too much beta carotene in supplement form can be very damaging to the body, and in some cases, can even turn the skin and eyes a yellow or orange color! Now, that is the definition of too much of a good thing! So, make sure that you use carrots as a fertility booster in moderation only! Ask your doctor if you have any questions.
