We all watched Beyonce’s HBO Documentary that aired last month, titled “Life Is But A Dream”, and it was nice to see her open up a little bit. Although still obviously very guarded and scripted (even the “candid” bits were obviously chosen very carefully), it was refreshing to see a different side of the pop diva. The normally very private star shocked the world when she revealed that she and husband rapper and producer Jay-Z had previously had a miscarriage before Beyonce gave birth to daughter Blue Ivy last year. Fortunately for Beyonce, your chances of getting pregnant after miscarriage are far greater, so there’s the silver lining.
Beyonce told Oprah during the documentary: “I flew back to New York to get my check up — and no heartbeat. Literally the week before I went to the doctor, everything was fine, but there was no heartbeat. I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I’ve ever written in my life,” she says. “And it was actually the first song I wrote for my album. And it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I’ve ever been through.”
Up until recently, the song lyrics that Bey wrote after that miscarriage were kept private, and all we knew of them was what Beyonce told us in the documentary. But just a few weeks ago, the normally very private and guarded star released a very personal instagram photo of the miscarriage song lyrics, while out to dinner with her hubby Jay Z and sister Solange.
Some were surprised at the star releasing the lyrics via social media, but we think it just goes to show that she is becoming more and more personal with letting her true self shine through to her fans. Here are the lyrics that were released:
“I guess love just wasn’t enough for us to survive. I swear I swear I swear I tried. You took the life right out of me. I’m so unlucky I can’t breathe. You took the life right out of me. I’m longing for your heartbeat, heartbeat.”
We know now that the song is called “Heartbeat,” and while it doesn’t look like the song is going to be released on an album, there are clips of the song online, and we must say, it is tragic, heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time. If you haven’t heard it yet, make sure you listen to the clip online.
We applaud Beyonce for her bravery in coming forward with such a devastating secret that she has held back for so long. I do believe that in opening up to her fans about her miscarriage, she is allowing herself to heal and also connecting and relating to her fans on another level. It is nice to see her opening up, especially when she has always been so private in the past, and we can only imagine that the process has been freeing and healing for her as well.
