Your Basal Body Temperature is the temperature of your body at rest. You can chart your Basal Body Temperature with a special thermometer. By charting your temperature every day before you even get out of bed, you can notice any differences from day to day. Your body will usually have a spike of up to one degree right as you ovulate. Basal Body Temperature is one of the body’s most basic fertile signs.
Cervical mucus is one of the most common fertile signs that the body gives us. At the beginning of your cycle, you will not usually notice much cervical fluid, but as your cycle goes on, the amount of cervical mucus will increase, and the consistency will go from sticky to sort of stretchy. The consistency of cervical mucus when you are ovulating will be the consistency of egg whites, and kind of stretchy. If you pay attention to your cervical mucus, you will usually be able to tell when you are most fertile.
This one isn’t that common in many women, but it does happen to some women every single month. Sometimes, when the egg is released, the ovarian follicle ruptures, and this can cause some light spotting each month. If you are a woman who experiences ovulation spotting, this can be a great clue to know when you are most fertile.
Call it nature’s way of making sure we reproduce, but many women notice an increased sex drive around the time of ovulation. Most experts attribute this increased sex drive to hormonal changes that are taking place in the body during ovulation. So, if you notice yourself in the mood more than usual, you could very well be ovulating!
Another great way to know when you are ovulating is to pay attention to the position of your cervix. You can check the position of your cervix by inserting a finger into your vagina and pressing lightly on the cervix. Before you ovulate, your cervix will feel firm and dry to the touch. As your body gets closer to ovulation, your cervix will get softer and moist. When you are ovulating, it might be hard to reach your cervix, and it will be increased in size. It will also be very soft and moist, like touching your lip.
