The two week wait (2WW) is the infamous time between ovulation and the start of your next cycle, and hopefully missed period, when you can take a pregnancy test. For many, it is an agonizingly slow 2 weeks of waiting.
The two week wait. Infamous, dreaded, and anxiously excruciating. For women who are trying to conceive, the two week wait is as common of a phrase as “cervical mucus”. But not everyone knows about the two week wait. Let’s fill them in! Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here
For those who don’t know, the two week wait is the two week window of time between when you ovulate and when your next period should start. It is approximately two weeks from ovulation until the time you can take a pregnancy test to find out if you are pregnant. So, for most women, this two week wait is a very anxious, nervous and slowwwww passing time!
How to deal with the two week wait? That is the hard question! Hopeful moms to be are most likely spending those two weeks obsessing and stressing over every headache, stomach flutter, twinge of nausea and tiny sign of bloating. For women who are trying to conceive, the two week wait marks the time when their job is done. They have done all they can do, and there is nothing left to do, but wait. This is why the two week wait can be so excruciating for women who are doing fertility treatments. The money is spent, the deed is done, all the doctors have been seen and medications have been taken. There is simply nothing left to do but wait.
Doctors advise the best way to handle the two week wait is to try to find things to take your mind off of it. Try to stay busy and engage your body and mind in other activities. Doctors also advise women to proceed with a degree of cautious optimism. You don’t want to be too pessimistic and be convinced that all your efforts have failed. But, on the other end of the spectrum, you do not want to go in knowing for sure that you are pregnant, all happy and optimistic, only to have your hopes and dreams crushed. Try to prepare yourself for both outcomes, and have a plan for how you will approach and handle each one. Try to stay positive and also distract yourself, and good luck with the two week wait!
Now you don’t have to wait the full 2 weeks for your period to have been missed for you to take a pregnancy test. Many women begin testing as early as 8-9 days past ovulation, as their excitement and anxiousness to find out is too great. But testing too early could result in a false negative, dashing your hopes when you may have just tested too soon for a test to detect the hCg hormone.
