Problems Getting Pregnant After Depo Provera

Depo Provera is very effective in preventing unwanted pregnancies, but can Depo Provera contribute to long term infertility even after you stop taking the shots?

Depo provera can be a very effective method of birth control. It is nice to have a method of birth control that women do not have to worry about taking every day, and it usually doesn’t have too many negative side effects. Depo provera also is very effective in preventing unwanted pregnancies, as long as you get your shots when you are supposed to. However, can Depo provera contribute to long term infertility even after you stop taking the shots? Today we are going to find out. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

Depo provera stays in your system

Depo provera can stay in your system longer than other birth control methods. This means, that even after taking your last shot, you might be unable to get pregnant for awhile while your body gets rid of all of the Depo provera that is left in your system. While the effectiveness of the shot begins to wear off after three months, lasting effects can remain in your body up to one year. That is something to remember if you are going to be trying to get pregnant right away.

Irregular periods

Many women find that even after stopping depo provera shots, that they still have very irregular periods. Some women have no periods at all, while others have very light or very heavy periods that remain erratic for years after going off of the shot. This can be very difficult for women who are attempting to chart or track their ovulation cycles in order to get pregnant.

Weight gain

Many women gain a lot of weight when going on the depo provera shot. Weight gain can make it much more difficult to become pregnant. If you are trying to get pregnant after stopping Depo provera shots it is important to make sure that you are eating a healthy diet and trying to keep your body in the best shape possible.

See a doctor

If you decide to go off of Depo provera and are trying to get pregnant, make sure to visit your doctor and talk with him or her about what you can do to improve your chances of getting pregnant. Your doctor will be able to help you figure out the best plan of action and also will be able to answer any questions or concerns that you might have. Your doctor will also be able to help you figure out a great diet and exercise plan if you need one, and help you to get started on a great prenatal vitamin.

Since you’re already 7 months pregnant, it is best that you maintain a healthy weight in order for your baby a healthy development, and for you to have a safe delivery. It is also best that you take prenatal vitamins and folic acid supplements to provide your baby all the necessary supplements. You should also try to eat a healthy diet, quit unwanted habits, stay fit and avoid stress for a healthy pregnancy.

I used the depo shot and had really irregular periods for over a year and a half afterwards. I am happy to say though that I now have a beautiful baby girl! Don’t give up hope! I really thought that it had made me infertile for a time but some bodies obviously just need more time to get back to normal.

I’ve been off of depo for 3+ years now, I only got one shot and never went back because I bled for 6 months straight. Anyway, I have one period every 8-10 months now that last only a few days, and I am unable to get pregnant (have tried more than you can imagine) I’ve seen multiple doctors over the last 3 years and can’t get anything figured out. I don’t know what happened but I think the depo caused it.

Hi im new to this whole thing about pregnancy and the whole implantation bleeding to getting confused with periods. But recently bk in January 29 I switched to depo and recieved my first shot. Then in April onthe 13th I got my period. It lasted a week. So April 23 was gonna be my last shot. I didnt take it because my bf and I decided to try. I was prescribe to take prenatal vitamins. But what struck me as odd was that again on the 30th I got my period aagain but this time it was spotting. From brown pinkish back to brown then to dark brown? It lasted for two weeks. Also my boobs feel sore. Can you tell me if this is a sign that I might be pregnant?

Hi Anna I know this is 3 months old but what the hey. I too was on depo maybe 4 shots total when I was 18 now 24 and never been pregnant and desperately trying. Dr doesn’t want to admit that depo caused my infertility because they are paid by these drug company’s but I’m 100% sure it’s the depo. My periods are crazy light (panty liner) bleeding for weeks at a time then a day off then back at it. It’s so depressing. How could I track anything when I don’t know when I’am actually on my period? Well now I have a new dr who is very understanding and did a lot of blood work, order u/s and provera. She is really working with me and my partner. She said now is the time to be aggressive about getting pregnant no more wait and see.

Hi my name is Emily and i’ve only used the depo shot once right after my 2nd child was born. I haven’t used protection since and now that my son is 14 months old i’m wondering what’s wrong. I’ve had irregular periods since but no luck with pregnancy.

I took Depo shots for 10 years and it took my cycle an entire year to start back. Whenit did it was very painful, but lasted as it normally did. Now it comes like clock work every 21-28 days. I haven’t used anytime of contraceptive I’m the last seven years and have notgotten ppregnant. I think Depo Provera made me infertile. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, I’m the mother of a 22 year old and a 17 year old. I think I’m beyond wanting to be a new Mom.
