Does your guy like to drink? What about smoking? Any illegal drugs, even occasionally? All of these things should be taken into consideration, and your guy should try to stop any bad habits of this kind before you start trying to get pregnant. Drug use, alcohol use, and smoking can make it harder to get pregnant.
Eating a healthy diet is a great way for guys to give their fertility a boost! Being overweight is not good for conceiving, and some experts think it can hurt sperm count. On the other hand, eating a healthy diet that contains lots of things like zinc, vitamin C, selenium, and vitamin E can really give your sperm a boost and make conception a breeze!
Most guys are not going to like this one, but it’s necessary. A checkup with your regular doctor is a great way to make sure you are in “conception shape.” Your personal doctor will be able to advise you of any particular things that might make conception harder in your personal case, and can offer personalized advice. This is a great first step to make sure everything is in good “working order” before you try to have a baby.
A lot of men don’t realize it, but your work environment can play a big role in your fertility. Many men work in occupations that might be hurtful to fertility. Some of these occupations include painting, factory work, farming, etc. Pretty much, any job that exposes you to lots of different chemicals can be hazardous to your fertility. If you are in doubt, talk to your doctor to help determine whether or not you should be concerned about your job.
This one might sound a little wacky, but research shows that if a man’s testicles consistently stay too hot, it can kill his sperm count! Therefore, have your guy avoid wearing pants that are too tight, and perhaps have him switch to boxers for awhile, if he doesn’t wear them already. Steering clear of sports like cycling can help too, since those kinds of clothing can be extremely tight. Also, have your guy avoid spas, saunas and hot tubs while you are trying to conceive.
