Sugar

We all know that sugar is bad for us, but it might be worse than we thought. Sugar makes us fat, and those extra fat cells in our bodies? They manufacture estrogen, and too much estrogen in the body can be bad for fertility. Too much estrogen can make it hard to conceive, cause menstrual issues, hormonal imbalances, and problems with PMS. So, try your best to cut back on sugar when you can!

Low Fat Dairy

We know, you thought you were doing yourself a favor, and perhaps working on losing a few pounds when you chose that low fat yogurt, ice cream, milk, and cheese at the store. Not so fast. While too much fat is indeed a bad thing, too little fat is now thought to be just as bad! Removing fat from the milk you drink and other dairy products you ingest has been shown to lead to hormonal imbalance, which can keep you from releasing a healthy egg, or can even keep you from ovulating at all! So, when it comes to your dairy products, make sure you keep the healthy fats.

Processed Foods

Besides being usually overloaded with sugar, processed foods have a lot of things that are putting them on the “bad food” list! Processed foods are chock full of things that the body can find toxic, like artificial dyes and sweeteners, MSG, trans fats, and many more harmful things! Processed foods can damage many different body processes, and fertility is just one of those!

Soda

This one goes for the guys as well as the ladies. While soda contains lots of sugar and other “extra” substances, a Danish study cited that men who drank at least a quart of soda daily had sperm counts that were two times lower than men who drank no soda at all. Something to keep in mind when you reach for your daily diet Coke!

Alcohol

We know that alcohol is bad during pregnancy, but what about before? Studies show that women who have at least one alcoholic drink per day have a 50 percent greater chance of suffering from ovulatory infertility than women who do not drink alcohol. The bottom line is steering clear of all alcohol is the best thing for making sure it does not affect your fertility in any way.
