How Vitamin D is Connected to IVF Success

We all know about vitamin D. It's super important for helping build strong bones in both children and adults, and it's vital for many other body processes as well. But, what a lot of people don't know is that Vitamin D may very well be connected to IVF success.

Vital vitamin D

We all know about vitamin D. It’s super important for helping build strong bones in both children and adults, and it’s vital for many other body processes as well. We get vitamin D from many different food sources, and also from our wonderful sun. But, what a lot of people don’t know is that Vitamin D may very well be connected to IVF success. That is what a new study is indicating. Read on for more info! Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

What is vitamin D?

Vitamin D is a very important vitamin in the body. It is different from other essential vitamins because the human body can manufacture it’s own vitamin D through exposure to sunlight. Vitamin D is not present in too many foods, which is why many people have low levels of it. Some fish such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel contains vitamin D. It is also present in beef liver, cheese, egg yolks and some mushrooms. Vitamin D is also artificially added to many “fortified” foods to make sure that people get enough of it. US milk, for example, began to have Vitamin D added back in the 1930′s, when rickets were a huge problem in America.

The new study

A brand new study was just published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal last week, and it says that women who are undergoing IVF might want to up their vitamin D intake in order to give themselves a better chance of conceiving. The study says that women who had sufficient levels of Vitamin D in their bodies were more likely to conceive during IVF than women who didn’t have enough Vitamin D. The study followed 173 Canadian women between the ages of 18 and 41 who were undergoing IVF.

The results

The study results were very surprising. Women with adequate levels of Vitamin D were able to achieve pregnancy 78% of the time. However, women with very low levels of Vitamin D were only able to achieve pregnancy 36% of the time. The study suggests that the optimum level of recipients of egg donation is 30 ng/dl. While the study doesn’t show if the levels of Vitamin D have an effect on the developing embryo or growing fetus, there is a great indication that the vitamin really helps women who are undergoing IVF to get pregnant. If you have any questions about your vitamin D intake, make sure to discuss them with your doctor or health care professional.
