How soon to test?

When you are trying to conceive, the wait from ovulation to the time to take a pregnancy test can be brutal. Usually referred to as the “two week wait”, the two weeks between ovulation day and the day a woman is supposed to start her period can be full of wonder and worry. A woman might wonder if she is pregnant, and might even begin to think that she is already experiencing pregnancy symptoms. She might worry if she really is pregnant or not, and might long to know the answer once and for all. So, the question is, how soon is too soon to take a home pregnancy test?  Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

The Experts Say

Most experts recommend waiting until a missed period to ensure the most accurate pregnancy test results. However, if you are a woman that has ever been through the brutal two week wait, you probably already know that waiting that long is easier said than done. According to experts, it is highly uncommon for any woman to be able to obtain an accurate result on a home pregnancy test any day prior to six days past ovulation. Therefore, women should wait at least that long to test. The amount of hCG that is needed for a woman to be considered pregnant is 5mIU/ml. The most sensitive pregnancy tests on the market can detect hCG levels of around 6mIU/ml, so there really is no way to tell if you are pregnant before that.

What’s The Best Time?

Of course, the optimal time to test is on the first day of a missed period, or later. However, some sensitive pregnancy tests, like the Clearblue Advanced Digital Response Test or the First Response Gold Digital Test can be used as soon as four days before a missed period, or six days before a missed period, respectively. Just keep in mind that the longer you wait to test, the more accurate results you will have. It is possible to take a pregnancy test too early and not have enough hCG in the body to be detected. If you take a pregnancy test too soon, and think that you have gotten a false negative result, wait a few days and test again. If the results still are not what you think they should be, you can always see a doctor and have a blood pregnancy test done for your peace of mind. Blood pregnancy tests can be done much sooner than home pregnancy tests.

If you had your cycle starting on 8/2/2015 and you have a consistent 28 day cycle, then you should have ovulated on or around 8/16/2015. And that is assuming that you always have a 28 day cycle. If it is ever anything other than 28 days and is not regular then the date would be different. Normal ovulation occurs 14 days before your next cycle is due to start. If you are unsure of this and have not been keeping track of your cycles, the best thing to do would be to get ovulation prediction kits to help pinpoint your ovulation. I am unsure about the bleeding you had around the time of ovulation, but most pregnancy tests to get an accurate result you would need to be at least the day your period is due or the day after at the earliest. HCG(pregnancy hormone) doubles every 2-3 days and is not usually detected by home tests until you are at least due to start and it may even take a few more days. Burning and itching could signal an infection which only your doctor can suggest what needs to be done for that. Hope this helps and best of luck!
