hCG Level and Early Pregnancy

hCG, the pregnancy hormone, is first detected as early as eleven days after conception with a blood test and 12-14 days with an at-home pregnancy test.

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, also known as hCG, is what is often referred to as “the pregnancy hormone”. It is the hormone that is made by the cells that form the placenta. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

When is hCG detected?

hCG is first detected as early as eleven days after conception with a blood test. If you are taking a urine pregnancy test, hCG levels can be detected as early as twelve to fourteen days after conception. Around every 72 hours or so, hCG levels in a pregnant woman should double. hCG levels peak at around eight to twelve weeks, and after that they will start to level off for the rest of a pregnancy. Many women are concerned about their hCG levels since it is the factor that pregnancy tests use to determine whether or not you are pregnant. hCG levels are important, since they determine whether or not you are pregnant, but not so important that you should be spending your pregnancy obsessing and worrying over them.

Pregnant Women and hCG levels

Doctors urge pregnant women to use caution when studying their hCG levels, and not to put too much emphasis on hCG levels. Every woman will have different hCG levels, and all women’s hCG levels rise at different rates. The basis that doctors use for hCG levels and pregnancy is that less than 5mlU/ml is considered “not pregnant”. If a woman’s hCG level is above 25 mlU/ml, that is considered a positive level for pregnancy. When a woman is around 3 weeks pregnant, her hCG levels can be anywhere from 5-50mlU/ml. Remember that especially in early pregnancy, the hCG levels will double every 72 hours, or somewhere around that. As a pregnancy progresses and the hCG levels in the body get higher, it can take longer for the hCG levels to multiply, sometimes as much as 96 hours.

How hCG levels increase

Every woman’s hCG levels will increase at their own rate, and can vary greatly among women. Doctors usually do not do much monitoring of hCG levels unless your pregnancy is experiencing a problem like bleeding or pain. Once the hCG levels reach 1000-2000 mlU/ml, a vaginal ultrasound should be able to show at least an indication of the gestational sac inside a woman’s body. If a woman’s hCG levels stop increasing, it can be an indication of a problem with the pregnancy such as possible miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. If a woman’s hCG levels are extremely high, it can indicate a multiple pregnancy also. If you are wondering if there are any other outside factors that could affect a woman’s level of hCG, the answer is no. There are not any other medications, such as antibiotics, pain relievers, herbal supplements, etc… That can manipulate hCG levels, nor will they affect the results of a test that measures or detects hCG. If you have any questions about your hCG levels during pregnancy, make sure to speak with your doctor or health care provider to address your concerns.

I have had previous miscarriages and then a successful pregnancy. We have just become pregnant again and I experienced some cramping a few days ago, but no bleeding. I saw the Dr. and they suggested testing hcg levels. My hcg level was around 10,000 at 5 + 1 and then at 15,000 when repeated at 5 + 3. The nurse at the early pregnancy unit said this didn’t look promising as the levels should have doubled. I’ve read elsewhere that this may not necessarily be the case. Any advice please?

As long as your cycles are regular and you don’t have infertility issues, getting pregnant can be quite easy for you. I do recommend that you monitor your ovulation dates, and timely have your sexual intercourse within your fertile window. It is also important that you avoid stress and take fertility supplements to enhance your body’s fertility and improve your likelihood of conception.

Normally, hCG levels should consistently double up every two to three days. However; they can gradually stop doubling around 10,000 to 15,000 hCG levels. This just simply tells that your pregnancy has been progressing well, and you should try to take prenatal vitamins in order for you to provide your baby the essential nutrients needed for a healthy development. Prenatal vitamins will as well prevent you from miscarriages.

Taking prenatal vitamins are important when pregnant since it can promote a healthy development for the child. However; I do recommend that you limit your wife’s prenatal vitamins into two in order to avoid overdose. Overdosing a particular vitamin nutrient can be fatal and can rise up health complications.

I am 5 week pregnant (IVF), I hady blood test done twice. Both were very low. 66 down to 23. They asked me to get another blood test to check the level next Monday, the 9th of sept 2013. if its keep dropping down, they scared that then I will have a miscarriage. Any chance for me? I haven’t bleeding yet. I am still getting the pain on the left side my belly. My boobs are still sore. Still cramping.
    Thanking you in advance.

at 5-3 we saw a yoke sack and a “beautiful” fetal pole.(described by Dr) but then she brought up blighted ovum. my gfs hcg was 26900. 48hrs later it is 39477. Only a 47% rise. the Dr is telling us its a failed pregnancy even though she previously said the fetal pole looked beautiful she says now we need to d&c. everything I read says she’s wrong. she says it has to double in 48 internet says 48-72. I’m freaking out. someone please help.

Does my D and C (suction and curettage) has something to do with the HCG i have now? Also, on my first pregnancy, i took clomid and shots of Fostimon.
I am worried because i don’t want to repeat what happened in my first pregnancy (missed abortion). Please give me advice.
