The results of the study led scientists to believe that ICSI is a quality treatment for couples struggling to conceive because of male infertility. For the most part, it should be the first thing to try when you are choosing between IMSI.

In-vitro fertilization has been a widely accepted and fairly successful fertility treatment for many years now. It is a great treatment because it helps women conceive when they have virtually no chance of doing so on their own. This is especially true for women who are not able to produce viable eggs because they can choose to use donor eggs with the treatment. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

One of the downsides of this procedure is that it doesn’t really address the issue with male infertility. Instead, it simply focuses on female issues and assumes that the male sperm is viable. When couples are in a situation where there sperm is not healthy, they would need to purchase donor sperm instead.

However, that is all changing with a new method of fertilization that can help with this problem.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

ICSI is a fairly new concept that can be used alongside IVF. This process requires sperm to be examined at 200 to 400 times magnification. Once the best sperm is found, only one sperm is injected into each egg. This allows doctors to choose the best sperm that is shaped correctly to attempt to fertilize the egg.

Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection (IMSI)

IMSI is also a rather new procedure that helps with the male infertility factor. Like ICSI, it involves examining the sperm and injecting only one sperm into the egg. However, instead of examining the sperm at 200 to 400 times magnification, the sperm is examined at 6,300 times. Naturally, this procedure is more expensive than ICSI and is most often used by couples who have had a failed IVF and ICSI procedure.

Studies

To help determine how successful these procedures are, some studies have been conducted regarding them. One particular study took a look at nearly 10,000 cases where the couple struggled with male infertility and had a failed IVF cycle. Most couples in this study chose ICSI over IMSI and the results were about the same. Statistically, couples were just as likely to conceive when they chose ICSO as they were if they chose IMSI.  However, delivery results were higher for those who chose IMSI over ICSI.

The results of the study led scientists to believe that ICSI is a quality treatment for couples struggling to conceive because of male infertility. For the most part, it should be the first thing to try when you are choosing between IMSI. However, if the first cycle fails, moving on to IMSI appears to be the best decision.
